BUTTE, MT - Butte SPIRIT Homes is expanding its mission to serve more individuals in recovery with the acquisition of a third residential facility on October 16, 2025. The new eight-bed men's transitional home represents a significant milestone for the organization, which has doubled its graduate numbers over the past year while maintaining a 72.7% continuous sobriety rate among program graduates.
The property, located in Butte, was purchased for $435,000 thanks to an outstanding fundraising effort over this year.. The half-acre property features a completely renovated interior with ample bedrooms and bathrooms to house 8 individuals in recovery, as well as an additional shop building with a vehicle lift which Butte SPIRIT intends to lease to a community member to generate additional operating income for the facility.
"We've proven that stable housing combined with evidence-based treatment creates lasting transformation," said Demetrius Fassas, Executive Director of Butte SPIRIT Homes. "This expansion allows us to serve individuals in longer-term recovery who have graduated from our intensive program or who are stable in the recovery community and simply need supportive, sober living without mandatory treatment requirements."
The new facility will operate under a different model than Butte SPIRIT's existing state-licensed homes. Rather than providing intensive ASAM Level 3.1 clinical treatment services, the transitional home will be certified to the National Alliance of Recovery Residences standards by Recovery Access Montana, offering peer-supported sober living through the social model of recovery. Residents will be invited to participate in clinical groups but will not have mandatory treatment requirements, filling a critical gap in Butte's continuum of care for individuals in recovery.
This acquisition comes after a record-breaking year for the organization. From July 2024 to June 2025, Butte SPIRIT Homes served 48 residents across its men's and women's facilities - an 85% increase from the previous year. The organization graduated as many residents this past year as it had in its first four years of operation combined, demonstrating significant improvements in both capacity and program effectiveness.
"Our graduates are succeeding, finding stable employment, and rebuilding their lives," said Fassas. "Many struggle to find housing in the community due to criminal records or lack of rental history. This facility ensures they have a supportive place to continue their recovery journey while fully integrating into the community."
The new men's transitional home is expected to open in December 2025, pending final renovations and staffing. The organization is already planning for a fourth facility - a women's transitional home - with a capital campaign launching this month to raise $400,000 by June 2026.
Butte SPIRIT Homes operates state-licensed ASAM Level 3.1 recovery residences for men and women, providing evidence-based treatment, peer support, and case management services. The organization has served over 78 individuals since opening in January 2021, with 22 successfully completing the program.
