Butte Freedom Festival Set to Bring Fireworks, Parade and Crowds to the Mining City
BUTTE, Mont. — Butte’s annual Freedom Festival is set to return this week, bringing one of southwest Montana’s largest Fourth of July celebrations back to the Mining City.
The celebration begins Thursday, July 3, with the annual fireworks display near the Big M overlooking Montana Tech. The show is expected to draw crowds across town as families gather in parks, neighborhoods and parking areas to watch the fireworks over Butte.
Festivities continue Friday, July 4, with the Independence Day parade along Harrison Avenue. The parade is traditionally one of Butte’s busiest community events, featuring local businesses, veterans groups, first responders, civic organizations, classic cars, youth groups and patriotic floats.
For many in Butte, the Freedom Festival is more than a holiday event. It is a homecoming weekend that brings former residents back to town and fills local restaurants, hotels and businesses with visitors.
Local officials are encouraging residents and visitors to plan ahead, arrive early and expect heavier traffic around parade areas and popular viewing locations for the fireworks.
Drivers should also watch for temporary road closures and increased pedestrian traffic throughout the holiday celebration.
As always, residents are reminded to celebrate safely, follow local fireworks rules and keep children supervised during the events.
The Freedom Festival remains one of Butte’s most recognizable summer traditions, drawing together longtime residents, visitors and families for a celebration of Independence Day in one of Montana’s most historic communities.
