Headwaters RC&D is excited to announce that loan funding has been approved to support a critical environmental cleanup at the historic Hansen Steam Plant site in Butte. This project will remove contaminated soils and lay the groundwork for the building’s transformation into a vibrant new event center serving the community.
Contaminated soil will be removed from the building’s interior, immediate exterior, and accessways from the parking lot. This essential cleanup paves the way for the owners to leverage additional funds from the Montana Historic Preservation Grant Program to re-roof the structure and begin restoration work.
The project is supported by an EPA Brownfields Loan and Grant package through Headwaters RC&D. As a commercial property, the owners were able to access this financing at a 2% interest rate—making this transformative effort both environmentally and financially feasible.
We invite you to help spread the word and join us at an in-person Public Meeting on Tuesday, August 5 at 5:30 PM during the Historic Preservation Commission Meeting at the Butte-Silver Bow Courthouse (Third Floor Council Chambers). This is an opportunity for the community to learn more, ask questions, and participate in the revitalization of this historic site.
