Sharon Hanley - January 4, 1942 - March 20, 2017


Sharon C. Hanley, 75, passed peacefully in her sleep on March 20, 2017. Sharon was born on January 4, 1942 to Ambrose and Lillian (Cooney) McCaughey. She attended St. Patrick’s Elementary School and graduated from Girls Central in 1960. Sharon married Jim Hanley on April 15, 1983 and two families of 5 children each were joined. They spent 33 years together celebrating, with their children, graduations, marriages and the births of many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Before retiring, she spent 24 years working for the Butte Public School system. During those 24 years Sharon made lifelong friendships. After retirement, she continued to work at the Civic Center concessions where she often broke even after buying children their snow cones and other treats. Sharon enjoyed life and brought immense joy to those who knew her; always smiling, happy and considerate of others. She loved spending time with her friends playing card games and Mah Jong, as well as celebrating her favorite holiday, St. Patrick’s Day. Above all, Sharon loved spending time with her family. She relished the opportunities to spend time with her grandchildren, whether playing games with them or watching them participate in their many activities. Sharon was preceded in death by her father Ambrose, mother Lillian, brother Ralph and his wife Jean, son-in-law Aaron Nehls and step grandson Ryan Kautz. Sharon is survived by her husband Jim; sons Tom McGuinn (Amy), Danny McGuinn, and Joe McGuinn (Jenny); daughters Cindy Luoma (Darryl) and Christine Nehls; grandchildren Tommy McGuinn, Whitney Conrad, Kylie and Chloe Nehls, and Owen and Sadie McGuinn; great grandchildren Harper Nehls, Thomas McGuinn and Annabelle Conrad. Step daughters, Sheilah Kautz (Greg), Lorene Hanley, Shawna Hanley (Lori Davis); step sons Greg Hanley (Joani) and Gary Hanley (Jenifer); step grandchildren Katie Dill, Glenn Kautz, Amber, Jena, Cole, Abby and Ty Hanley and Candace Davis; step great grandchildren Amalia, Nora, Everett and Judah Dill. Relatives and friends may call Thursday after 5:00PM at St. Ann’s Church. Vigil services will be conducted at 7:00PM in the Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10:00AM. Cremation will follow the Mass. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Highlands Hospice.
