Jean Foley, September 29, 1924 - February 20, 2017


Jean Foley died Monday, Feb. 20, surrounded by her family at Genesis HealthCare, Butte Center. Jean was born in Butte Sept. 29, 1924 to Will and Lil (Noland) Leeming, and she called the Mining City home for her entire life. Jean was one seven children who grew up in the Leeming home on Buffalo Street. She attended St. Mary’s Grade School before graduating from Butte Central in 1943. Jean Married Bill Foley on April 15, 1948, and together they raised two children, their daughter Pat and son Bob. Bill and Jean remained side by side until Bill’s death on Feb. 12, 2015. Jean and Bill were adored by their four grandsons and 11 great-grandchildren. A proud housewife, Jean was known for her crocheting abilities. Her legendary stockpile of afghans will keep her family warm for decades to come. She enjoyed spending time with her family, bowling and playing very fast rounds of golf with her good friend Inez Barger. Jean also enjoyed a playing 31 in the clubhouse following a round of golf, spending an afternoon with friends at the Plaza Pub, having dinner at the Top Deck, and arguing with Republicans. Jean is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; father-in-law and mother-in-law George “Mick” and Julia (Powers) Foley; brothers Bill and Don Leeming; sister Betty Jacinich; and brother-in-law Emil Jacenich, Bill Sharkey, and Don and George Foley; sisters-in-law Mary Foley, Charlotte Leeming, Margaret Mary Leeming and Rusty Leeming. She is survived by brothers Tom Leeming and Pete Leeming, both of Yuba City, Calif., and Jack (Arlene) Leeming of Lynnwood, Wash.; sister-in-law Shirley Sharkey; son and daughter-in-law Bob and Jo Foley; daughter Pat; grandsons Don (Sheri), Bill (Kim), Bob (Alicia) and Zach (Shannon) Foley; and great-grandchildren Sean, Brenna, Delaney, Grady, Maizee, Annelise, Shae, Josie, Charlotte, Colter and Griff Foley; cousin Leora Brinig of Whitehall; special friends Bob and Inez Barger; and numerous nieces and nephews. Special thanks goes out to the hardworking and unbelievably caring men and women at Genesis HealthCare. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 24 at St. Patrick’s Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Interment of the ashes will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorials in Jean’s name may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Spokane, a Democratic candidate or a charity of the donor’s choice.
