Irene Strubeck, February 4, 1950 – January 25, 2017


Irene Strubeck joined her mother and father, Rena and Louie, and other loved ones, in Heaven on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 after a short and courageous battle with brain cancer. Irene was born Irene Louise Govednik, in Butte, on February 04, 1950; the daughter of Alouis “Louie” and Irene Theresa “Rena” (Spear) Govednik. She was raised in the McQueen addition and attended Holy Savior Parochial School. She graduated from Butte Central, the class of 1968, and then went on to earn her degree in Nursing from St. Patrick’s School of Nursing in Missoula, Montana.

Irene began her Nursing career at Silver Bow General Hospital, where she was employed as an L.P.N. (Licensed Practical Nurse). She attended St. Patrick’s School of Nursing, from where she graduated in 1973. She returned to Silver Bow General Hospital, where she worked as a Registered Nurse from 1973 to 1974. Irene relocated to Havre, Montana, where she worked at Northern Montana Hospital. Returning to Missoula, she worked at St. Patrick’s Hospital. She also worked for Park Clinic in Livingston for 10 years. She eventually settled down in Missoula, where she was employed as an Oncology Nurse at Missoula Medical Oncology before retiring and returning to Butte in 2012.

On June 22, 1974, Irene married Earl Charles Strubeck, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, in Butte, Montana. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Michelle and Eric.

Irene enjoyed traveling with her family. They traveled to Europe on several occasions, as well as, many parts of the United States. She also enjoyed attending Grizzly football games, reading, and occasionally trying her luck at the slot machines; however, Irene’s favorite past time was spending time with family and friends.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Alouis and Irene Govednik; William J and Katherine Spear, Ronald and Francis Williams, Joseph Starcevich, and George and Stella Spear. She is survived by her husband, Earl Strubeck; daughter, Michelle Strubeck; son, Eric Strubeck; and sister and brother-in-law, Ann Marie and Kenneth Hudson. She is also survived by her very special aunt, Dorothy Starcevich; nieces, Lauren and Leigh Anna Hudson; and numerous cousins.

Friends are asked to join the family on Thursday at 10:00 am in St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Cremation will follow Mass and Rite of Committal will take place in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Our Lady of the Rockies, the American Brain Tumor Association (, the Cancer Support Community in Bozeman, Montana (, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
