Nona L. Doyle

September 11, 1929 – April 26, 2021

An infectious smile has left this earth only to smile down upon us from the heavens above. This smile was the one we all know as Nona L. Doyle who passed away peacefully this 26th day of April at the Copper Ridge Nursing Home.

Nona was born on September 11, 1929 to Victor L. Larson and Sybil (Newkirk) Larson in Bozeman, MT. Nona went to elementary school (a one roomer) in Trident, MT and later junior high and high school in Manhattan, MT.

Nona worked numerous jobs in her young years from babysitting, waitressing and one of her favorites, working at a ranch in Big Sky, MT that she called “cow camp” during roundups, haying season, and elk hunting camp. She just loved to be around people and people loved to be around her.

Nona met the love of her live in a little cafe in Manhattan while hanging a poster for a school dance. She was asked if she needed help from the cook there (the soon to be love of her live) Robert Doyle. After graduation, Nona married Robert at the age of 18 and they moved to Butte (where Robert was from) to start their long and happy life of 73 years. They were blessed with four children, Leaona, Daniel, Robert Jr. and Jeffery.

Nona was a stay-at-home family provider for many years until she started to work for the Butte School District as a playground attendant and hot lunch server in 1963 at the Kennedy School. She proudly served there for 46 years retiring in 2009 at the age of 79. She always said those were some to of the best years of her life. She always said she never met a bad kid and she treated them all as if they were her own. She was known as the “Lunch Lady”. One of her favorite jobs was (as she called it) the “Hoist Engineer” where she ran the hoist for her husband and his father at their Red Devil Mine in north Walkerville.

Nona was always a very social person belonging to several clubs and organizations like The Butte Strikettes, The Butte Bowling League, The T.O.P.S. club and the Big Butte VFD Auxiliary.

Nona was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her father Victor Larson, her mother, Sybil Larson, her son Robert Jr., her son-in-law John Anderwald, her sisters Barbara Heil and Dolly Swank, her brother Charles Larson and her dogs, Sandy, Mandy and Jellybean.

Nona is survived by her daughter Leaona (Jim) Dorcheus, sons Daniel (Jackie) Doyle, Jeffery (Jerri) Doyle. Her grandchildren Jonet Doyle (Tracy) of Indiana, Wendy (John) Tadday, Kristine (Alan) Faulkner, John (Cheryl) Doyle, Christopher (Maureen) Doyle, Sean Doyle (Samatha) of Utah, Ashlea (Dave) Neill, Blake (Chantal) Anderwald of Missoula, Trina (Damien) Gerry, Alisha (Joe) Bowman of Kansas, Trent Doyle, Jason Doyle and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10:00AM in the Duggan Dolan Chapel.   Rite of Committal will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Donations in Nona’s name can be made to the Chelsea Animal Shelter, Butte Food Bank or to an organization of the donor’s choice.
