South Korea and Japan suspend U.S. wheat imports

5.31.13 Japan and South Korea suspended U.S. Wheat imports after an experimental strain of Monsanto genetically modified wheat that was never brought to market was found in a field in Oregon, the New York Times reported today.

The wheat was identified when the farmer that found the wheat attempted, unsuccessfully, to kill the wheat with Roundup. Monsanto gave up on the experimental strain when it appeared that there would be no market for it, NPR reported yesterday.
