The standoff is over. The suspect is dead. The man who had barricaded himself in a residence on the 500 block of West Aluminum was found deceased in the basement of the home, Sheriff Ed Lester texted at 8 pm on Thursday. Officers were remaining at the scene overnight, and the investigation will continue today.
Normal activity can resume in the area, the sheriff said.
"The incident did not end the way I had hoped, but I'm thankful all officers involved are safe," the sheriff noted.

A former neighbor of the woman who was evacuated from the residence on the 500 block of West Aluminum said that the woman had a restraining order against the armed man who still is in a standoff with police at the home.

The standoff continues. Both the Lewis and Clark and the Butte-Silver Bow swat teams are at the scene on the 500 block of West Aluminum, Sheriff Lester reports.

The standoff continues on the 500 block of West Aluminum. At 3 am Sheriff Ed Lester reported by text that the Lewis and Clark County SWAT had team relieved the Butte team.
Streets in the area had been blocked off, and the public was asked to remain away from the area. An armed male suspect remained inside the residence, and negotiations were ongoing. At 8 am the sheriff texted that the standoff continued.

BSB Sheriff Ed Lester reports in a series of texts that a woman was evacuated from a residence there, but as of 4:39 pm a man was still inside the dwelling, and the standoff continues.
Butte law enforcement asks that the public stay out of the area.
