Butte–Silver Bow has received a $20 million grant from the EPA to build a muti-use community center, and now the clock is ticking.
The county has 3 years from today to complete the project, B-SB Chief Executive JP Gallagher told reporters at a press conference today at the Civic Center.
A site has already been selected for the new facility. Local government will build where the county shops had been on the Parrot tailings reclamation site.
Mr. Gallagher noted that the site is adjacent to abundant parking and that “We already own the land.”
Cindy Perdue-Dolan, a field representative for Senator Steve Daines, asked why the funds couldn't be used to upgrade the Civic Center. Gallagher replied that while the Civic Center was designed to host events, the new facility would house everyday activities such as basketball and possibly pickle ball.
The community center would also serve B-SB as an emergency shelter.
