On Wednesday morning cars snaked around the north side of the mall parking lot, and the line stretched out of the lot and backed up beyond Joann Fabric and Craft.

More than 100 vehicles lined up, the occupants there to be tested for the COVID-19 virus.

“I do believe there is an uptick in people wanting to be tested,” noted Karen Sullivan, the Butte-Silver Bow Health Officer.

She thought the increased interest came from the increase in confirmed cases in the county. She noted that her staff was meeting Wednesday afternoon to discuss changes in testing procedures that would allow “more people to be tested as efficiently as possible.

The county is testing again from 10 am until 2 pm today at Butte Plaza Mall, Sullivan said.

“We have a great collaboration with Southwest Montana Community Health Center  and St.James Healthcare to accomplish sentinel testing in Butte-Silver Bow,” Sullivan wrote in an email.

The health officer urged all people to get tested. Those without symptoms should go to the mall for testing. Those with symptoms should head to Southwest Community Health Center. Persons with severe symptoms are asked to go to the emergency room at Saint James Healthcare, she said.
