From the Montana Department of Transportation:

June 7, 2019
ENNIS – The Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) will temporarily close the Madison River near the Varney Bridge to boat traffic on Monday, June 10. Crews will remove the east side of the bridge. Completion of the work is dependent on good weather.

Following the closure, small sections of the river near the bridge abutments will remain restricted to boaters through June 14. Boat traffic will be directed through the construction area using buoys once the closure is lifted.

What to expect:

Boats are restricted to a 6-foot maximum height clearance at the Varney Bridge.

Buoys in the river will direct boats through the construction zone.

The Fishing Access Site on the east side of the river will remain open for boats.

Notification signage will be placed upstream and downstream of the bridge.
