Deon Beth Gubler

Deon Beth Gubler passed away Monday evening in a local nursing home.

She was born August 22, 1930 to Elloyd Betenson Burton and Emma (Cox) Burton and attended schools in North Hollywood, California and St. George, Utah, graduating from Dixie High in 1948. She married Kahl Laub Gubler in Las Vegas, Nevada on November 6, 1948 and they settled in Butte, Montana in September of 1950. Deon worked as a cashier at Burrs Department Store and Buttrey Foods until 1972. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son John James Gubler, and her husband, Kahl, who passed away October 8, 2009. Survivors include her sons and daughter-in-law, Kahl R. Gubler of Centerville, Utah and Cary B. Gubler and Danelle Fogarty of Billings, Montana, four grandchildren, Eric, Ryan and wife LeAnn, Rikki, and Jake. Also surviving are five great grandchildren, her brothers James E Burton and Monte E Burton, and her sister and brother-in-law Emma “Lu” and Edmund Fischer.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services were conducted Saturday morning March 1, 2014 at 10 o’clock in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home under the auspices of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Robert William Kohn

Robert William Kohn passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014 in a local hospital. 

He was born in Butte August 8, 1934 to Cyril and Teresa (Walgamuth) Kohn and attended St. John’s Grade School, graduated from Boy’s Central in 1952, earned his bachelor’s degree at Western Montana College and his master’s degree from the University of Montana.  He played football at Central and Western before joining the U. S. Naval Reserved where he served for eight years including service on the USS Helena. His first job was at Dorshes Poultry which was near the Civic Center. He then worked at Pay-n-Save Market.  Robert also worked as a paper boy, at Esso Gas Station, as a carpenter for Conrad Benson and at Matelich Trailer Sales before starting his teaching career.  His teaching career spanned thirty two years and included stints in Shelby, Montana and Butte where he taught at East Junior High School and worked as an administrator in several area grade schools. He was administrator at West when the school was converted from a junior high to an elementary school. 

Mr. Kohn belonged to the Carpenters, Teamsters and Teachers Unions and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the Belmont Advisory and Support Group.

He married Olive Mae Sundstrom in 1957 and together they had four children, Jean, Cyril, Kurt and Mary.  Olive passed away in 2006.  He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Cy and Kareniesa Kohn of Butte, Kurt Kohn of Hamilton, daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Steve Perusich of Butte and Mary and John Larson of Kenmore, Washington.  Also surviving are ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Bob’s remains are in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home where Parish Vigil Services will be conducted this (Friday) evening at 6 o’clock.  Liturgy of the Resurrection will be celebrated Saturday afternoon at 1 o’clock in St. Ann’s Catholic Church and cremation will follow.  Private placement of ashes will take place at a later date.  Memorials may be made to the Belmont Senior Center, the Cystic Fibrosis, Little Ladies Chapter or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
