DION BERN SUTHERLAND April 5, 1930 to January 22, 2017

On January 22nd, 2017, Dion Bern Sutherland passed away peacefully in Butte, Mt.  Dion was born on April 5th, 1930 to Silas and Jane Sutherland in Long Beach, California. His siblings are Juanita, Stanley, Garrel, Carol Ann and Kenneth. Dion moved to Deer Lodge, Montana where he graduated high school and joined the U.S. Army in 1947. He married Margy and to this union they had four children Diane, Jeanne, Scott and Tracy. They later divorced. Dion was a member of the Special Forces Unit and fought in the Korean War. He logged many parachute Jumps until retiring to the Army National Guard in 1973. He received his full retirement from the military in 1990 as a sergeant major. In 1972 Dion married Betty Lou Fitzwilliams and to this union she brought four children, John, Judy, Eleanore and Betty Lou. At this time, Dion served as a deputy sherriff in   Silver Bow County and later worked at the ACM mines in Butte as a proud union worker. He was laid off when the Berkley Pit closed. He went back to school and graduated in small engine repair. Dion was preceded in death by both his parents, his wife Betty Lou and siblings, Stanley, Garrel, Carol Ann and Kenneth. He is survived by his sister Juanita, Children, step-children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In accordance with his wishes, interment of Dions ashes will take place in Sunset Memorial Park in Silver Bow County on Saturday April 8th, at l:00 pm. He will be laid to rest alongside his wife Betty Lou.
